Chronic Conditions

Arthritis

Despite popular belief, arthritis isn’t one disease. It’s a common term used to describe joint pain and conditions that affect millions of people (adults and children) worldwide. However, according to the Arthritis Foundation, there are more than 100 types. Typically symptoms include joint swelling, pain, stiffness or a decreased range of motion. The most common is Osteoarthritis, a condition where the cartilage between bones wears away and bones rub against one another causing swelling, pain and damage.

The pain it causes can be minimal, moderate or severe. Often over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen can treat most pain. However, for more severe cases, there are treatments and medications your doctor can recommend.
